8.3 Understanding, Recognizing and Reducing the Risk of STIs, including HIV (Pg 80)
While this topic is generally useful, it is still lacking and not comprehensive.
Should children be taught to grapple with sexual risk or avoid sexual risk completely?
This topic is very good, mainly because it focuses on biological facts rather than promoting gender ideology.
However, children are again expected to learn how to wear a condom at the age of 9-12.
Who are they expected to have sex with? Predators should be reported, not condoned and have risks and harms “minimised” for the victim. Children are not to become targets of sexual activity.
If people are truly concerned about the lack of know-how to wear a condom, make condom companies print the instructions clearer on boxes and individual packaging.
CSE as it is isn’t truly comprehensive in a helpful way. It can be truly comprehensive and useful if it emphasises the risks of drug taking, casual sex and certain kind of unnatural intercourse (e.g. oral and anal sex) at older ages.
CSE needs to go beyond risk mitigation without encouraging the higher virtues of self-control and sexual prudence. Why teach children to take risks when they could be avoided altogether?
