The learning objectives are mostly good, if not for the following:
- Have HIV activists become role models for students (15-18 years old)
- Advocate for people living with HIV (15-18 years old)
Should activists teach teenagers about sex?
“This topic is needful. However, it is important to teach that non-discrimination does not include affirmation of the sexual lifestyles that places people at risk of HIV.
15-18-year-old teenagers must identify male, female and transgender activists living with HIV.
There is no need to affirm or idolise people living with HIV who are also activists for the various causes they are interested in. There is no need to specially celebrate their achievements either.
These activists may lead lives in a way that is contrary to what parents of these students would wish for their children. Many of their values and worldview may also be at stark contrast with their respective family values.
Why should CSE encourage youths to have them as role models when there are so many less controversial ones out there? Why should CSE become a tool to raise activists for HIV, LGBT and abortion?
