6.3 Puberty (Pg 67)
The learning objectives are mostly good, if not for the following:
- Problematic terms and concepts such as “gender non-conforming” and “transgender” taught as truth (12-15 years old)
How should children understand peers suffering from gender issues?
This topic is very good because it gives a detailed education on the biological and psychological changes that happen during puberty.
12-15-year-old teenagers are required to recognize that puberty is challenging for children who are gender-non-conforming, transgender and intersex.
It is good for teenagers to feel empathy for those struggling with gender issues. While rare, some may also need to grapple with their sense of self and their bodies due to intersex conditions.
However, the gender ideology is slipped into this by using ideological terms and concepts which insists a subjective sense of self be affirmed even when at odds with physical realities. This is not actually helpful for a person struggling with this incongruence.
